   Two of Putin's top Russian pilots were killed by US-supplied HIMARS, report says
   
   Two top Russian pilots were killed by HIMARS, a long-range rocket system supplied by the US, a report says.
   
   Lieutenant Colonel Maksim Potyomin, 41, died in Donetsk on July 8 when his motorcade was hit by precision-guided rocket artillery, the MailOnline reported.
   
   Another fighter pilot, Colonel Anatoly Stasyukevich, 54, is also believed to have died in the same attack.
   
   While the news of their deaths was previously known, Maksim Potyomin's father Alexey told Russian outlet V1.ru this week that he believed his son's death was caused by a HIMARS strike.
   
   "As far as I know, the car with my son was hit by a missile from the HIMARS complex, which we have been hearing so much about lately… The resulting injuries were incompatible with life," Potyomin told the outlet.
   
   The pilot's funeral took place on Sunday, where he was buried with full military honors, the outlet reported.
   
   Both pilots were senior officers in the 1st Guards Baranovichi Red Banner mixed aviation division, said the Mail Online. It was the first unit to receive the Sukhoi Su-57 fifth-generation fighters in 2019 and includes a helicopter-rescue detachment, according to reports.
   
   The High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), which first arrived in Ukraine last month, has begun to play a crucial role in the fight against Russia.
   
   The US has given Ukraine 12 units so far, with another four on the way, according to Gen. Mark Milley.
   
   A military expert told Insider's Sinéad Baker that HIMARS is the "perfect" weapon due to poor Russian logistics forcing senior commanders into its range.
   
   HIMARS are more advanced than Ukraine's existing artillery capabilities and can hit targets as far as 50 miles away.
   
   Ukraine said it had used the weapons to kill a Russian general, destroy 50 ammunition depots and strike a key bridge.
   
   Russia reacted angrily to the US sending Ukraine the weapons, with Russian President Vladimir Putin threatening to escalate his bombing campaign in response.
   
   The two fighter pilots are among the latest of dozens of senior Russian officers to be killed in Ukraine.

   Voedingsbedrijven hebben het ingrediënt zonnebloemolie massaal vervangen door koolzaadolie, zo verklaarde de FOD Economie vandaag in de marge van de Landbouwbeurs in Libramont.
   
   Door de oorlog in Oekraïne ontstond er een tekort aan zonnebloemolie, een belangrijk ingrediënt in heel wat bewerkte voedingsproducten. Er werd vooral overgeschakeld op koolzaadolie, zo blijkt nu, en in veel mindere mate op koolzaadlecithine, sojalecithine of palmolie.
   
   De FOD Economie ziet signalen in Duitsland en Nederland van een tekort aan maïszetmeel. Verder maakt men zich zorgen over rood fruit, dat voor 80 procent uit Oekraïne komt.

   According to the US Department of Defense, fighting continues in the east and south of Ukraine.
   
   "Russian advances slow to a crawl, grind to a halt in some places, or are slowly reversed in areas like Kherson. Russia is failing on the battlefield and suffering domestic failures at home," a senior Defense Department official said.
   
   According to him, "the Ukrainians have become very effective in finding and killing Russian command and control nodes and destroying swaths of Russian materiel."
   
   "Even as Russia is talking the big talk, even as Russia is menacing the Ukrainian population, the Ukrainians continue to bravely advance. They're making tremendous use of the $8.2 billion in equipment we've provided, thus far," the official said.
   
   It is noted that the Ministry of Defense is closely consulting with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to ensure the supply of the necessary materiel, including ammunition.

   After revealing the location of new facilities the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue the methodical destruction of ammunition depots of the occupiers. In the last 12 hours, information has appeared regarding the destruction of russian army bases near Nova Kakhovka, Zaporizhzhia region, as well as Pervomayskyi, Luhansk region.
   
   In particular, an ammunition depot was hit again near Nova Kakhovka, locals report a successful detonation of the ammunition.
   
   Defense Express notes that it is the second strike in the last two days, on the night of July 28-29, another facility was destroyed in the area of this city.

   Russische Gazprom stopt nu ook met gaslevering aan Letland
   Gazprom stopt met de levering van gas aan Letland nadat het eerder al de kraan naar enkele Europese landen dichtdraaide. Volgens het bedrijf zouden de Letten zich niet aan de voorwaarden van gaslevering hebben gehouden.
   
   Het is onduidelijk om welke voorwaarden het precies gaat, maar het kan ermee te maken hebben dat het land weigert voor Russisch gas in roebels te betalen. Betaling in roebels is een belangrijke eis van de Russische president Vladimir Poetin en Gazprom.
   
   Sinds het uitbreken van de oorlog in Oekraïne lopen de spanningen tussen Letland en Rusland op. Eerder deze maand voerde Letland de dienstplicht in, als reactie op de Russische agressie in Oekraïne.

   Russians Began to Deploy Latest Buk-M2 Air Defense Systems, Only to Get Wiped Out by Ukrainian New Anti-Radar Missiles (Video)
   
   ather rare anti-aircraft missile systems "Buk-M2", were spotted in the city of Melitopol captured by russian invaders and turned into a logistical hub. The M2 is the latest modernization of this Soviet system.
   
   We can tell this one is actually a Buk-M2 thanks to the 9S36 radar station which is designed to detect and designate low-altitude targets.
   
   Moreover, there are two of these stations in the video, and the standard number of these radars is one per battery. Defense Express reminds that "Buk-M2" began to appear within the army of the russian federation in the 2010s, and the estimated quantity is about 100 air defense systems. And only four air defense missile brigades have those in service: the 297th and 61st of the Central Military District, the 90th of the Southern MD, and the 5th of the Western MD.
   
   Taking into account the location they were filmed, it is most likely that these complexes would be involved in countering the frontline aircraft of the Air Force of Ukraine, which operates at extremely low altitudes. And also possibly in a futile attempt to intercept GMLRS missiles for HIMARS, based on the fact that the Buk-M2 has a faster reaction time compared to the other russian air defense systems.
   
   At the same time, such objects as Buk-M2 are just the right target for anti-radar missiles, which Ukraine is about to receive in the next military aid package from the USA. According to the available information, this anti-radar missile is a special upgrade of the GMLRS, which is only being developed for the US military by the Northrop Grumman corporation.
   
   The supply of those was revealed by Ukrainian Minister of Defense Oleksii Reznikov during an interview on TV. The missiles were not announced by the US Department of Defense separately but could be included in the batch of GMLRS rockets. Defense Express estimates that the missile is based on the experience of producing air-launched AGM-88E AARGM and AARGM-ER missiles.
   
   Anyway, the deployment of the Buk systems by the russian army indicates significant problems the russians are facing, caused by both the systematic destruction of their air defense systems by the Ukrainian Army and the rather scarce surveillance radars.

   Rusland levert nog maar 20 à25% van wat het gewoonlijk uitvoert. Als de leveringen op die lage niveaus blijft,moet Europa de vraag durven stellen of het niet beter is om zelf de afname stop te zetten. Poetin zal ander het spel blijven spelen. Hij zal het gas blijven gebruiken om verdeeldheid te zaaien en de eensgezindheid in het westen te ondermijnen.Misschien moeten we in Europa eens gaan nadenken wat we gaan doen als Rusland over enkele jaren de kraan weer opendraait .     Any Frenchman is a soldier and owes himself to the defence of the nation,” declared the Jourdan Act of 1798, pioneering the concept of universal military service.
    
    Almost two centuries later, French President Jacques Chirac finally did away with the levée en masse, replacing it with “Defence and Citizenship Day”, an away day for youths to learn about Republican values once a year.
    
    The end of national service in 1997 wasn’t universally popular in France. For some, it was an affront to history. For others, an admission of the country’s collapsing importance in world affairs.
    
    But the rest of Europe would follow suit. Across the continent, military service was on its last legs by the turn of the century.
    
    Policymakers wanted their militaries staffed only with professionals. With no conflict west of the Balkans in almost half a century, grand armies of potentially hundreds of thousands of reservists seemed not just outdated but expensive.
    
    Britain had done away with military service in 1963; Belgium did so in 1992. But between 2004 and 2011, a vast swathe of Europe did away with national service. Only Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Cyprus, Greece, Austria and Switzerland have never abandoned conscription. Some rules were relaxed, though. In 2006, Vienna reduced military service down to only six months.
    
    Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 was the first shock that prompted several European governments to rethink military service. Ukraine brought back conscription in 2014, which has allowed it to amass a vast army of professionals and reservists in its current war with Russia.
    
    In 2015, Lithuania partially reintroduced it (after having ended it in 2008) and Norway became the first European country to introduce compulsory military service for women.     Dit draadje heeft iets wat mij niet aanstaat. Er zit oorloghitserij in en te weinig zoeken wat naar vreedzame oplossing.
    
    Er zullen concessies moet worden partij om verder afslachten te voorkomen. Las al iets van 40.000 Russische slachtoffers en het zal aan de andere kant niet minder zijn.
    
    Begin ik over de Krim, Welke taal spreken de mensen daar?? Russisch dus! En van wie of welke Russische president was het een kado in de overtuiging zal het Russisch zou blijken? Moeten we nu gaan vechten voor de Krim? Lijkt me vrij zinloos. Rutte is blijkbaar dat inlegvelletje na volksreferendum vergeten!
    
    Daar komt bij als je de Russen teveel vernedert de nucleaire optie alleen maar dichterbij komt. Meneer Poetin weet inmiddels dat hij aan alle kanten ervan langs kan krijgen bij overtreding van grenzen van bepaalde landen te beginnen met een bom op zijn eigen kop.
    
    Maar goed de oplossing waar zou die kunnen zijn? De Donbas en achterwaarts industriegebied wat verdelen?
    
    De oplossing zit in ieder geval niet in dit nodeloos doorvechten. Dachten de Amerikanen niet dat wel tijdens de Vietnamoorlog en wat bereikten ze?
    
    Nederlandse regering vecht in deze tijd blijkbaar tegen de eigen boeren in naam van een zelf benoemde stikstofcrises dan een oproep te doen tot een vredes-accoord in al dat zinloze geweld.

    PS ik vraag me echt af of posters zoals Luchtschip echt die Krim met Russische bevolking willen terughalen. Dan zoek je de grote nieuwe wereldoorlog op en waarvoor? Die geweldige democratie hier met staatsomroep die aan volksmanipulatie doet en regeringspartijen die zaken toen waarover geen letter stond in hun verkiezingsprogrammas.
    
    Heb ik het niet eens over die EU zakkenvullers met hoogmoedswaanzin en klimaat daarvoor gebruiken

    Rusland inmiddels de grootste terroristenstaat en dan lijkt me het antwoord duidelijk.
    Altijd ontkenningen en omdraaien van alle feiten alsof Oekraine constant de eigen troepen vermoordt en de poetin-twijelaars, ook hier aanwezig, roepen om het hardst dat er geen of onvoldoende bewijs is dat Rusland verantwoordedelijk is/was voor MH17 en inmiddels de grootste oorlogsmisdaden denkbaar.
    Tsjernobyl,hoewel locatie Oekraine, was een overduidelijk voorbeeld hoe de Russen altijd de feiten ontduiken.
    Daar was al heel snel geen mogelijkheid meer om de feiten simpelweg te ontkennen al hebben ze het echt wel geprobeerd en
    daarna werd er van alles gebagatelliseerd.
    
    En het is alleen maar erger geworden met die Russische instelling dat de eigen bevolking niet het recht heeft om de
    waarheid te horen en de poetin fans hier blijven gemakzuchtig maar aan de twijfelkant staan dat veel nog niet
    bewezen is dus is Rusland voorlopig onschuldig, lekker makkelijk en je moet wel tot de wappie generatie horen
    om trots te zijn op die laffe instelling of noem het overtuiging, nog dramatischer.

    GakGak geef hier eens concreet aan of je vind dat Oekraïne of het Westen de Krim terug moet claimen. Waarom? Zijn daar geen risico"s aan?
    
    Heeft het Nederlandse bevolking niet paar jaar geleden besloten tot niet te snel opnemen van toen behoorlijk corrupt Oekraïne in de EU en het ophitsen van Verhofstadt en Van Balen niet zo kon waarderen?
    
    Rutte wist het op zijn gluperige manier te regelen manier te regelen met inlegvelletje en die is hij nu ook al vergeten. Wil je wel een premier met zo een slecht geheugen? En ja voral als het hem dan uitkomt.!

    Mijn visie:
    Ik herhaal mijn eerdere visie beknopt en eenvoudig en hoop dat ik er finaal naast zit.
    1. Rusland gaat over in de bezette gebieden tot referenda.
    2. Referendum gaat over aansluiting bij Rusland (grensverlegging) en uitslag van tevoren uiteraard bekend.
    3. Rusland plaatst aan de nieuwe grenzen zware bewaking van personeel en militair materieel (grensverlegging).
    4. Rusland plaatst atoom/kernwapens bij nieuwe grenzen.
    5. Rusland deert het niet dat nieuwe grenzen niet worden erkend.
    6. Rusland blijft hameren dat een aanval op Rusland wordt beantwoord met atoomwapens (nieuwe grenzen vallen dus ook binnen Rusland).
    
    Betekent dat niet dat de rattentsaar zowel het Westen maar vooral Oekraine schaakmat heeft gezet ?
    Schrijf het in uw notitieboekje.
    
    Wie helpt mij van deze nare visie af ?

    Dat ze in Rusland de EU als vijand en voorloper van de NaVO zien kan ik gezien dat domme EU-gedrag wel begrijpen.
    
    Tja als jezelf enorm faalt als bij voorbaat gedoemde Unie dan zijn vijanden welkom om de zaak bijeen te houden en de noordelijke landen verder leeg te melken!

    Allemaal geneuzel met de kennis van nu.
    
    Dus niet elke keer weer teruggrijpen op hoe het eerder/vroeger was toen Rusland een waardeloze staat was en zeker geen bondgenoot
    voor de vrije westerse wereld, maar nog niet de gluiperige aggressor die eerst nog ontkent (tegenover Macron als ik me
    niet vergis) en even later gewoon een onafhankelijke staat (zelfs door Rusland erkend...ooit) binnenvalt en dreigt te
    verwoesten met een volksmenner als poetin aan het hoofd.
    
    Waarom zou je zo gemakzuchtig vanuit ons standpunt (en wat hebben we in te brengen...vrijwel niets hierover) willen
    bepalen hoe Oekraine zich wel of niet moet verdedigen of laten slachtofferen.
    Of dacht je dat die paar wapens uit Nederland doorslaggevend zijn in de strijd, nee toch ?
    Of dacht je dat wij bepalen of de VS wel of niet die wapens levert, nee toch ?
    
    Maar ik begrijp je wel hoor, poetin heeft de macht over kernwapens en je voelt je bedreigd dus vandaar die risico afweging
    en liever tegemoetkomen aan chantage van een terrorist en daar is een mooi Nederlands woord voor...drie letters.

    GakGak geen direct antwoord. Waarom geef je dat niet? Als ik goed lees, begrijp ik dat we Oekraïne moeten gaan steunen bij terughalen de Krim. Nou gaan er zelf maar heen en ga zelf vechten. Dat is om grote oorlog vragen en ach is die Krim bij Rusland hoeveel Nederlanders liggen daar echt van wakker? In Brussel bij de EU waarschijnlijk wel vanwege hun superdik betaalde baantjes.
    
    Het is gewoon onverantwoord en een wereldoorlog risico. Waarvoor eigenlijk ook? Een tot nu toe nogal corrupt Oekraïne en dan hetzelfde verhaal over Rusland, Er moet gewoon een snel akkoord komen en snel! Langer wachten is alweer dan zoveel onnodige doden aan beide kanten.
