    Tele Atlas Delivers Navigable Map of Ukraine
    Expansion into Ukraine Demonstrates Commitment to Central and Eastern Europe, Highlights Regional Growth in Consumer Navigation

    Gent, Belgium, 17 March 2010 — Tele Atlas, the world leader in high quality digital maps and dynamic content, today unveiled expanded coverage of Ukraine, which includes coverage of the country’s complete major and interconnecting road networks encompassing more than 250,000 kilometers of roadways. The release extends the company’s European maps, which cover 44 countries and more than 10.6 million kilometers, and marks the company’s first navigable map of the Ukraine.

    The new map includes navigable street network coverage for turn-by-turn and location-based applications and covers nearly 40 percent of the country’s population. It also features street level coverage in 46 major cities across the country, including Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kiev, Lviv and Odessa, as well as all regional centers. The Ukraine map offers users an enriched navigation experience with map information and content to find more than 47,000 points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, shops, petrol stations, pharmacies and hospitals, including nearly 30,000 settlement centers.

    tomtom europaTomTom was voorheen verkrijgbaar in een versie met kaarten van West-Europa. Voor mensen die dat te beperkt vinden is er sinds vandaag een nieuwe applicatie die bijna heel Europa afdekt. Het Europa-aanbod ziet er nu als volgt uit:

    * TomTom Europa: €99,99
    * TomTom West-Europa: €79,99
    * TomTom Oost-Europa: €69,99
    * TomTom Benelux: €69,99

    Opvallend is dat Turkije en Griekenland niet aanwezig zijn in de Europa-versie, terwijl TomTom wel over de kaarten beschikt: er zijn aparte applicaties voor Turkije (€44,99) en Griekenland (€59,99).

    Welke landen zitten er dan wel in deze Europa-versie? Hieronder zie je het totale overzicht. De vetgedrukte landen zijn nieuw ten opzichte van de West-Europa-versie:

    * Andorra
    * België
    * Bulgarije (dekking 54%)
    * Canarische Eilanden
    * Denemarken
    * Duitsland
    * Estland
    * Finland
    * Frankrijk
    * Groot-Brittannië
    * Hongarije
    * Ierland (Republiek)
    * Italië
    * Kroatië (incl. grote steden en kustgebieden) (dekking 42%)
    * Letland (dekking 63%)
    * Liechtenstein
    * Litouwen
    * Luxemburg
    * Malta
    * Monaco
    * Nederland
    * Noorwegen
    * Oostenrijk
    * Polen
    * Portugal
    * Rusland (tot aan Oeral) (dekking 33%)
    * San Marino
    * Slovenië
    * Slowakije
    * Spanje
    * Tsjechië
    * Vaticaanstad
    * Zweden
    * Zwitserland

    Heb je al TomTom Benelux of West-Europa al gekocht, dan is er géén mogelijkheid om goedkoop te upgraden naar de volledige Europa-versie. Je zult de software voor de normale prijs moeten kopen.

    Naast de genoemde applicaties heeft TomTom in de loop van de tijd een navigatie-applicaties voor losse (ei)landen uitgebracht, zoals Mexico, Thailand, Mauritius, etc. Dat kan aantrekkelijk zijn als je naar een van deze landen op vakantie gaat, maar relatief gezien is de prijs vrij hoog. Voor alleen Mauritius (qua oppervlakte kleiner dan de provincie Groningen) betaal je bijvoorbeeld €39,99.

    CAYMAN ISLANDS/March 16, 2010/PR Newswire/ - Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) announces that its board of directors has unanimously approved moving the place of incorporation of the company from the Cayman Islands to Switzerland. Garmin’s shareholders will be asked to vote in favor of the proposed change in place of incorporation, also known as a redomestication, at a shareholders meeting, which is expected to be held on May 20, 2010. The redomestication will also be subject to approval of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands. If the redomestication is approved by Garmin shareholders and the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands, it is expected that a new Swiss company, also called Garmin Ltd., would replace the existing Cayman Islands company as the ultimate public holding company of the Garmin group and each shareholder will receive one share of the Swiss company for each share held of the Cayman Islands company.

    The original parent company of the Garmin group was Garmin Corporation, a company incorporated in Taiwan. Under the legal framework of Taiwan at the time of Garmin’s initial public offering in 2000, it was not practical for Garmin Corporation to offer its shares in the United States. Therefore, Garmin Ltd. was formed in the Cayman Islands in July 2000 as a holding company for Garmin Corporation in order to facilitate the listing of its shares on the NASDAQ stock market in the United States.

    “Following a thorough review, we have determined that it is in the best interest of Garmin and its shareholders to change the jurisdiction of incorporation of our group parent company to Switzerland,” said Dr. Min Kao, chairman and CEO of Garmin Ltd. “Switzerland is centrally located in Europe in close proximity to our major Western and Eastern European markets.”

    “Garmin’s footprint in Europe has grown considerably, through the acquisition of our distributors in ten European countries during the last four years, plus our recent establishment of an office in Poland. The Swiss office will provide a base for expansion of certain corporate functions in Europe and a more favorable structure from which it would be possible to acquire or partner with European businesses. We believe that the change of our jurisdiction of incorporation will enhance our global business operations and reputation consistent with our status as an international company with significant operations in Asia, North America, as well as Europe. Switzerland also offers a well-developed corporate, legal and regulatory environment with an extensive network of tax treaties with other countries,” said Kao.

    Garmin does not expect that the redomestication will have any material impact on its financial results. Assuming completion of the redomestication, shares of the Swiss company would be listed on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the symbol “GRMN”, the same symbol under which Garmin shares are currently listed. The Swiss company would remain subject to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) reporting requirements, the mandates of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the applicable corporate governance rules of NASDAQ. In addition, the Swiss company would continue to report its consolidated financial results in U.S. dollars and under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.

    Details of the proposed redomestication are provided in Garmin’s preliminary proxy statement, filed today with the SEC.

    Since Swiss law does not permit shareholder rights plans, Garmin Ltd’s board of directors has approved an amendment, subject to the approval of the redomestication by Garmin’s shareholders and the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands, to change the expiration date of the rights issued under the company’s shareholder rights plan from October 31, 2011 to the effective date of the redomestication to Switzerland, which is currently expected to be June 27, 2010. Accordingly, as of the effective date of the redomestication, the rights under such plan will expire and no longer be outstanding.

    Garmin Ltd. also announces that its board of directors has approved the payment of a 2010 annual cash dividend in the amount of $1.50 per share, a one-time increase from $0.75 per share. The dividend is payable to shareholders of record on April 15, 2010 and will be paid on April 30, 2010. The one-time increase of the annual dividend to $1.50 per share is reflective of the company’s strong cash position and expected ongoing cash generation in 2010. “We remain confident in our long-term ability to grow our business and remain committed to research and development to fuel growth and innovation in the coming years, but given our strong 2009 results and cash position, we can also provide this one-time increase in our annual dividend,” said Dr. Min Kao, chairman and CEO of Garmin Ltd. The timing of the 2010 annual dividend payment has been changed from the usual date in December due to the proposed redomestication which, under Swiss law, would otherwise require that another shareholder meeting of the new Swiss company be convened to approve the dividend after the redomestication is completed.

    DJ MARKET TALK: Talk Of TomTom Being Bought By Garmin "Nonsense"

    1022 GMT [Dow Jones] Royal Bank Of Scotland says it´s "nonsense" to speculate on Garmin acquiring TomTom (TOM2.AE), following the announcement Garmin intends to relocate its place of corporation to Switzerland from the Cayman Islands to provide a base for expansion. RBS´s analyst cites regulatory and cultural hurdles and several other reasons as to why a deal doesn´t make sense. The analyst suggests that in the event that TomTom where to be involved in consolidation, Apple (AAPL) is likelier to be involved than Garmin. TomTom rated buy with a EUR14 target. ‘iPad verkoopt sneller dan iPhone’ door onze redactie
    AMSTERDAM - Sinds de iPad in de Verenigde Staten in de voorverkoop is gegaan, heeft Apple er al honderdduizenden verkocht. Volgens sommigen kan de iPad zelfs een groter succes dan de iPhone worden.

    De iPad is vanaf 3 april verkrijgbaar in de winkel in de Verenigde Staten. Vanaf dan worden ook de internetbestellingen geleverd.

    Van de originele iPhone werden er in 2007 in de eerste drie maanden na de lancering 1,2 miljoen stuks verkocht. Volgens de bronnen van de Wall Street Journal kan de iPad dit succes verbeteren als de vraag aanhoudt.

    TomTom selects RBS to provide a global cash management solution for over 40 countries and 20 currencies
    TomTom, a leading location and navigation solutions provider, has selected the Royal Bank of Scotland to provide cash management services in three regions: Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. This allows TomTom to further enhance control and security over its cash resources globally, in 40 countries.

    (Media-Newswire.com) - TomTom, a leading location and navigation solutions provider, has selected the Royal Bank of Scotland to provide cash management services in three regions: Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. This allows TomTom to further enhance control and security over its cash resources globally, in 40 countries.

    RBS will enable cash pooling across TomTom’s group of global subsidiaries - minimising overdraft charges and optimising interest income on cash surpluses. The deal enhances TomTom’s central cash management function allowing all payments and receipts for all bank transactions worldwide to be routed via RBS. The new service will automate cash pooling and the centralisation of cash for the major currencies to TomTom’s corporate headquarters.

    Richard Veffer, SVP Corporate Finance, TomTom stated, “ This is an important project for the TomTom Group and will allow us to save on banking costs, enhance our control over cash security and generally optimise on liquidity across the group, by further improving working capital. With a real-time view on the cash cycle, we will be able to manage risk better and make quicker and more accurate decisions on a day to day basis.”

    This implementation involves the transfer to RBS of all accounts globally and will cover all ERP administrations, all legal entities and all business units. Wilco Dado, Head of Netherlands, Global Transaction Services, RBS added, “Cross border cash control and improvement of interest results are key concerns for all major corporates. Also having a global structure in place is paramount for every corporate with subsidiaries abroad. This latest deal demonstrates RBS’ overall GTS international cash management position in the Netherlands and the way we are helping our clients. We are delighted to be working with TomTom to help eliminate complexities of managing cash, better manage risk, and minimise costs resulting in improvements to working capital. We look forward to working with TomTom on future projects”.

    I am pleased to report that we ended a challenging year with a robust operating result and cash flow. In fact, we sold more PNDs than ever in the last quarter. On top of that, we made further steps in the integration and streamlining of our operations, which contributed to significant progress in our organisation, products and services.

    Our focus areas

    Since we introduced the PND to the world in 2004, we have sold over 40 million units and I am delighted with the trust people have shown towards the PND platform. It is their preferred choice, with its high value proposition, both today and for the foreseeable future. For many, it has become an integral part of their driving experience. We will continue to invest in this platform and look forward to bringing innovative and relevant product propositions to market in 2010.

    In the automotive industry we grew substantially and are becoming a key player in the volume production segment. We achieved technical and commercial success with the roll out of our solutions on several Renault and Fiat models. Our state of the art, high quality systems have resulted in many more people opting for the navigation solution in high volume car models. We plan to further grow our presence here.

    WORK is the fastest growing fleet management company in Europe. It reached the 100,000 subscriber milestone early in 2010.

    Our map content division completed its goal in moving to a single production platform. It continues to improve its high efficiency standards and operational excellence. Last year our maps were rated highest for quality and reliability in certified tests in North America. Looking forward, one of our key priorities is to further integrate our map production process and to improve the time to market from the current quarterly batch release to a 48-hour update cycle.

    Our changing industry

    The industry we operate in is going through substantial change. Increasingly, digital maps are being deployed in the battle for mobile phone screens, either via smartphone or mobile internet applications. We see limited impact from this on our current revenue streams from PNDs, automotive and fleet management. The demand for applications that use location will grow across all markets and all geographies, and we see new opportunities for partnerships and business models, particularly in the mobile space.

    Final thoughts

    I look forward to a year in which we will continue to execute on our existing strategy of broadening our revenue base through growth in automotive, fleet management and content and services. At the same time we will embrace the opportunities provided by the growing interest in location and navigation solutions.

    I would like to thank all of our employees for their commitment and drive throughout the year; without them the progress we have made would not have been possible. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our shareholders, who recognised the value of our assets and supported us during the year. Finally, I would like to voice my appreciation to our partners and, of course, our customers who helped us to round off the year successfully.

    Finland exporteert veel minder mobieltjes 13:23 22-3-2010

    HELSINKI (AFN) - De export van hoogwaardige technische producten uit Finland is het afgelopen jaar met 45 procent gedaald tot volumes die in 1997 voor het laatst gezien werden. Dat bleek maandag uit officiële cijfers van de Finse douane.

    In 2009 gingen 15 miljoen mobiele telefoons Finland uit, tegen 32 miljoen stuks een jaar eerder. Finland is de thuisbasis van mobieltjesmaker Nokia.

    De totale waarde van de geëxporteerde hightechproducten kwam het afgelopen jaar uit op 6,3 miljard euro, 14 procent van de totale exportwaarde. Dat was een jaar eerder nog 11,4 miljard euro en op de top van de IT-boom in het jaar 2000 11,5 miljard euro, toen goed voor 23,3 procent van het totaal.

    Duitsland, Rusland en Groot-Brittannië waren voor Finland de grootste afzetmarkten.

    TomTom Reporting Average Speed Limits TomTom Rapportage Gemiddelde snelheid Grenzen

    Flexing their muscles on data acquisition, TomTom was cited in the Wall St Journal in reference to average speed limits on highways state by state. Flexing hun spieren op data-acquisitie, TomTom werd aangehaald in de Wall St Journal in de hand van de gemiddelde maximumsnelheid op snelwegen per staat. So while the article is interesting in that most states have average speeds a lot higher than 55MPH, and many states have raised the legal speed limit either as a forethought or in reaction to the reality, I think that the cool GPS story here is that TomTom is starting to think of themselves as a data collection and analysis company. Dus terwijl het artikel is interessant omdat de meeste staten zijn de gemiddelde snelheden veel hoger dan 55MPH en veel landen hebben gewezen op de wettelijke maximum snelheid, hetzij als een vooruitziende blik of in reactie op de werkelijkheid, denk ik dat de koele GPS-verhaal is hier dat TomTom begint te denken van zichzelf als een gegevensverzameling en-analyse bedrijf. These types of studies and data citations usually indicate that the company is sitting on some cool stuff, and that they feel it's worth sharing to further a strategic vision. Deze typen van studies en gegevens citaten duiden er meestal op dat het bedrijf zit op een aantal leuke dingen, en dat ze vinden het de moeite waard om het delen van een strategische visie verder. Now comes the guessing game of what that vision is.... Nu komt het raadspel van wat die visie is ....

    Ongeveer drieduizend kopers van een HTC Magic hebben mogelijk een besmette geheugenkaart meegeleverd gekregen. Op de bijgeleverde microsd-kaart zijn onder andere de Mariposa- en de Conficker-worm geïnstalleerd.

    Beveiligingssoftwaremaker Panda ondekte onlangs het bestaan van malware op de geheugenkaart van de HTC Magic. Vodafone claimde dat het om een incident ging, maar er bleken meer toestellen besmet te zijn. De provider heeft inmiddels toegegeven dat er veel meer besmette geheugenkaarten bij de Android-smartphone zijn meegeleverd, zo meldt Pcworld. Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid hebben drieduizend Magic-eigenaren een geheugenkaart ontvangen die is besmet met een worm die de pc onderdeel maakt van het Mariposa-botnet, de Conficker-worm en malware die wachtwoorden voor het spel Lineage steelt.

    Volgens Vodafone zijn de besmette geheugenkaarten alleen in Spanje geleverd. De provider gaat de getroffen klanten voorzien van beveiligingssoftware voor de pc en instructies om de malware van de computer te verwijderen: hiervoor werkt Vodafone samen met Panda. Tevens krijgen de Magic-bezitters een nieuwe geheugenkaart.
