   Daimler Truck en de Volvo Group hebben dinsdag een intentieverklaring voor een nieuw te vormen joint venture naar buiten gebracht. Dit samenwerkingsverband moet de ontwikkeling en toepassing van waterstoftechnologie voor vrachtwagens gaan realiseren.
   
   Daimler Truck, bekend van de vrachtwagens van Mercedes-Benz, zal al zijn huidige activiteiten op het gebied van waterstof en de ontwikkeling van brandstofcellen in de nieuw te vormen joint venture onderbrengen.
   
   De Volvo Group, niet te verwarren met de Volvo Car Corporation, zal zich inkopen voor 600 miljoen euro en daarmee een aandeel van 50 procent verwerven. De joint venture moet in het derde kwartaal van dit jaar getekend worden en voor het einde van 2020 helemaal rond zijn.
   
   "Deze samenwerking met de Volvo Group is een mijlpaal in het op de weg krijgen van vrachtwagens en bussen met een brandstofcel aan boord", aldus Martin Daum, bestuursvoorzitter van Daimler Truck.
   
   In een brandstofcel wordt de chemische energie van waterstof en zuurstof omgezet in elektriciteit waarmee elektromotoren worden aangedreven. Waterstof is in potentie een groene brandstof, bijvoorbeeld wanneer er groene stroom wordt gebruikt om water in waterstof om te zetten.
   
   Daarnaast kan waterstof verkregen worden middels stoomreforming, waarbij aardgas wordt samengevoegd met stoom. Dit is het zogeheten grijze waterstof, omdat er fossiele brandstoffen nodig zijn en er dus CO2 vrijkomt bij de productie. Indien dit wordt afgevangen en opgeslagen, is er sprake van blauwe waterstof.

   ^^ de vraag is alleen, wat nu slim is. ik had gehoopt op een fuelcell-samenwerking van maatschappijen die we allang kennen, maar zo te zien fabriceren ze een eigen cel. ik begrijp dat de basis wel bij ballard pwr ligt decennia geleden. nu doet daimler dit geheel zelf.

   Dat klopt. Wie koopt extern in, en wie doet het zelf. Mogelijk kost zelf ontwikkelen meer tijd, maar is inkopen duurder. Ik ken de verhoudingen op het moment niet. Ga me in het weeken inlezen.

   Ik heb wel begrepen dat de Volvo Group de andere tak van Volvo is en zich alleen bezig houdt met trucks. Deze samenwerking met Daimler betreft volgens mij ook alleen vrachtwagenvervoer en -uitbreiding op H2.

   Excuus, dat wist ik niet. Zou toch verwachten dat het wel iets met elkaar te maken zou hebben, gebaseerd op de naam.

   Hydrogen Helps Keep Key Workers Moving and City Air Clean
   
   ITM Power, the clean fuel and energy storage company, is proud to be continuing to play a part in the support of key workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. These customers include the FCEV Metropolitan Police vehicles used for policing activities in London and Green Tomato Cars, who are helping to get key workers where they need to be. Both the MET Police and Green Tomato Car drivers are continuing to use the Company’s hydrogen refuelling stations in and around the London area in Teddington, Cobham on the M25, Beaconsfield on the M40 and Rainham. Each three minute car refuel provides a range of up to 400 miles.
   
   ITM Power electrolysers generate hydrogen fuel on-site, using renewable electricity and water with the fuel dispensed at the station where it is generated. This means a zero carbon footprint and no use of further transport infrastructure which is under pressure in the current situation. An additional benefit of hydrogen is its role in supporting the drive for cleaner air, especially important in high population cities. When hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are driven, the only emission is water vapour.
   
   Dr Graham Cooley, CEO, ITM Power, said: “We should all recognise the contribution made by the UK’s key workers who are keeping the country running in these difficult times. Keeping our hydrogen refuelling stations open means that we can play our part in helping them continue to work, for the benefit of all UK citizens.”

    Håkan Samuelsson, de Chief Executive Officer (CEO) van Volvo,heeft gezegd dat ze er niet over denken om op waterstof over te stappen.

    Håkan Samuelsson, de Chief Executive Officer (CEO) van Volvo,heeft gezegd dat ze er niet over denken om op waterstof over te stappen.
    

    Ik heb al eerder gepost dat Hakan Samuelsson de CEO is van Volvo Car en deze heeft, om de kop van je artikel te gebruiken, geen "RUK" met de Volvo Group (Trucks, Bussen etc) te maken...

    Q1 2020 Financial Highlights

    Total revenue was $24.0 million in the quarter, a year-over-year increase of 50% or $8.0 million , primarily the result of higher shipments of Heavy Duty Motive products, as well as higher Technology Solutions revenue.
    
    The Power Products platform generated revenue of $12.3 million in the quarter, an increase of 95% or $6.0 million :
    
    Heavy Duty Motive revenue was $10.4 million , an increase of 303% or $7.8 million , due primarily to higher shipments of module parts kits and MEAs to China;
    
    Material Handling revenue was $0.7 million , a decrease of 78% or $2.5 million , primarily the result of lower fuel cell stack shipments to Plug Power; and
    
    Backup Power revenue was $1.2 million , an increase of 181% or $0.8 million , due primarily to an increase in hydrogen-based fuel cell stacks to Asia .
    
    The Technology Solutions platform generated revenue of $11.6 million in the quarter, an increase of 20% or $1.9 million , due primarily to amounts earned from the Audi program and the Weichai-Ballard joint venture (JV) technology transfer program, which more than offset minor declines in other programs in the period.
    
    Gross margin was 22% in Q1, an improvement of 8-points due primarily to a shift toward a higher overall margin product and service revenue mix.
    
    Cash operating costs2 were $12.2 million in the quarter, a 31% increase primarily attributable to increased expenditure on technology and product development expenses.
    
    Adjusted EBITDA2 was ($9.1) million , compared to ($8.6) million in Q1 2019, primarily as a result of higher equity loss in the Weichai-Ballard JV.
    
    Net loss was ($13.5) million in the quarter, an increase of 12% and adjusted net loss was ($13.5) , an increase of 35%.
    
    Net loss per share2 was ($0.06) , an increase of 11% and adjusted net loss per share2 was ($0.06) , an increase of 33%.
    
    Cash used by operating activities was ($10.1) million , an improvement of 3%, reflecting cash operating loss of ($7.0) million and use in working capital of ($3.1) million .
    
    Cash reserves were $181.6 million at March 31, 2020 , an increase of 10% from the end of Q1 2019 and an increase of 33% from the end of the prior quarter, reflecting net $52.6 million of cash raised in the quarter from partial execution of an At-The-Market Equity Program. Ballard also made a further capital contribution of $6.5 million to the Weichai-Ballard JV in the quarter.
    
    During Q1 Ballard received $14.8 million in new orders and delivered orders valued at $24.0 million , reducing the Order Backlog by $9.2 million from the prior quarter, ending Q1 at $169.5 million . The 12-month Order Book was $105.8 million at end-Q1, a decrease of $4.5 million from the prior quarter.

    ROTTERDAM (AFN) - Met de aankondiging van Shell om in 2023 een fabriek voor groene waterstof in gebruik te willen nemen, komt de waterstofeconomie in de Rotterdamse Haven in een stroomversnelling. "We versnellen nu de plannen voor aanleg van een publiek waterstofnetwerk in het havengebied", laat topman Allard Castelein van het Havenbedrijf Rotterdam weten.
    
    De fabriek komt op de Tweede Maasvlakte. De waterstof gaat vandaar via een nieuwe pijpleiding naar de raffinaderij in Pernis. Gasunie en het havenbedrijf willen die pijpleiding gezamenlijk aanleggen. Er zijn geen financiële details naar buiten gebracht.
    
    "Het is de energie van de 21e eeuw", zegt Castelein die er vanuit gaat dat er later meerdere waterstofterminals bijkomen in Rotterdam. "In Noordwest-Europa kunnen we niet genoeg waterstof produceren, dus zal veel moeten worden ingevoerd. Rotterdam gaat daarin een centrale rol spelen, zoals het dat nu voor olie doet. Hiermee zorgen we ervoor dat de Rotterdamse haven een belangrijke pijler onder de Nederlandse economie blijft."
    
    Windenergie
    
    Shell is van plan om de groene waterstof te gaan produceren met behulp van groene stroom uit windenergie. Deze windenergie komt bij voorkeur van het offshore windpark Hollandse Kust (noord). Samen met Eneco dingt Shell mee in de aanbesteding van dit windpark. Als Eneco en Shell de vergunning winnen, krijgt het windpark naar verwachting een vermogen van 759 megawatt en levert het straks genoeg stroom op om meer dan 1 miljoen huishoudens van groene stroom te kunnen voorzien.
    
    Waterstof is een duurzaam alternatief voor aardgas. Het kan gemaakt worden uit aardgas waarbij de vrijkomende CO2 wordt opgeslagen onder de Noordzee of door met (groene) stroom watermoleculen te splitsen.
