jeez, what a bunch of pessimists in here, once again.
surely, if you would have done your homework properly during the last 2-2.5 weeks, you'd all have made money in the share market for sure!
Volatility will be always there in any share market: in the US, here in Australia and in NL as well. Without the volatility it would be dull and no profit to be made either ...
All those shorters and the like: for pete's sake: who needs them when you can make returns without all the exagerated risks involved with that, in normal straight forward shares.
Thanks to the recent surge one can jump into several stocks and move up your exit price (along with the rise) to protect your profits.
I'm only a part-time trader - determine my entry price and when that occurs, put in my buy order and have a look at it during the coffee break.
Usually 70-80% of placed orders are filled.
At lunchtime and aternoon tea time another check and after the market has closed, is all the time I spend on trading (besides research to prepare for next purchases or planning of selling shares the next morning, either to cut losses at a set exit price or take profits as it has reached my target.
By jolly how hard is that to do??
Instead of calling Bas a 'draaikont' finally understand that the market 'draait' - all Bas is trying to do is to make sense of it, in his own way.
So take it or leave it, but for heavensake stop shooting the messenger and give some opinion of your own: at least others can check if your's is better than his.
Of course the money markets are in strive - we all know that - and it will still go on for another year or more. The result will we a sideways move with certain stocks swinging up and down quite heavily: well, fantistic! Use the movements of individual stocks and profit from it, instead of worrying about the AEX going up or down.
My advice, for what it's worth?
Never go short, just do a lot of homework on individual stocks that are run by top people and control a large part of a certain section of the market/economy, use T/A only as a secondary opinion. And buy. When?
Simple: in times of Gloom and Doom, when the herd is fleeing, the cab drivers tell you the world nearly comes to an end and to sell all your shares...
When to sell your shares: when everone is buying, volumes are up and the same cab driver tells your the opposite ....
A profit taken is a profit. A paper profit can turn - if you wait long enough - turn into a nightmare. Set your exit prices - on loss and on profit.
For the odd share you have that keeps climbing and climbing (yeah, some have some of those too:-) - well, it's up to you - I let these profits run by moving the exit price up at a slower pace.
So, yes it looks like overnight the US market will hit a bump in the road. Probably for a few days to come. SO what: take some profits: you don't have to be fully invested all the time.
When the next wave comes: enjoy the tides and the surf while you can.
Also: SPEND some of your profits too: you need to reward yourself from time to time!
And finally: don't turn into an old (or young) grump and post negative comments only: give praise when it's due (see little of that in here).
It's good for us and our blood pressure.
I don't know about you guys 'n girls, but I have decided a long time ago that the best way to look at things and to go through life is seeing the glass half full, not half empty ...
If one can't come up with their own T/A point of view (backed up with proper T/A indicators, etc), don't bother to attack Bas.
All the man can do is to give you the best and the worst possible scenario and what is in between. What he can NOT do is telling you at 8.40 exactly what will happen that day, let alone tomorrow.
Let's be real to each other .....
Cheers and good luck with your trades.
    Ed

    @eddy

Yes there's a lot of distrust about the markets. But I think this is understandable as we have faced two major bubbles and their aftermath from the USA the last decade. Then the misery in Europe with the government bonds. I almost forgot 9/11 and the Iraq war afterwards.

The economic situation in northern Europe however is not bad at all.

After 10 years of bearmarket some people became pessimistic as after such a long time, one easily can become a perma bear. I guess some people have only experienced declining markets.

A clear direction of the market could be a trigger to become a bull, but the old debt problems some think are still around us and could become alive again.

    Regards.
