    ArcelorMittal Orders Copper Staves for Breman & Gent BF from Primetals

    ArcelorMittal has recently ordered new copper staves from Primetals Technologies for its steel plants in Bremen and Gent, with installation scheduled for the end of 2023. The steelworks in Gent had experienced problems with wear and bending of the current copper staves, prompting ArcelorMittal to search for a substitute technology. The copper staves that will be installed at the blast furnace in Gent feature Primetals Technologies’ anti-bending solution, which prevents stave corner bending caused by thermal effects and stave bending in the area of pipe connections. Additionally, slide-in hexagonal inserts will be used to capture and retain unreduced materials on the hot face of the staves, leading to significantly less wear and lower maintenance-related expenditures.

    These staves feature a tailormade anti-bending solution and a fixing system that eliminates the risk of bolts being pulled out, a common cause of cooling pipe failures resulting in cooling water leakage into the furnace.

    At the steel plant in Bremen, ArcelorMittal produces more than 3.6 million metric tons of steel per year for several markets, with one of them being the automotive industry.

    Steel Dynamics, Inc. reported first quarter 2023 net sales of $4.9 billion and net income of $637 million. Comparatively, the company's sequential fourth quarter 2022 earnings were $635 million on sales of $4.8 billion, while Q1 2022 earnings totaled $1.1 billion on sales of $5.6 billion.

    Mondiale staalproductie weer gestegen

    In maart.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De mondiale staalproductie is na dalingen in januari en februari dit jaar in maart weer gestegen. Dit bleek vrijdag uit cijfers van brancheorganisatie World Steel Association.

    In totaal vervaardigden de 63 staalproducerende landen vorige maand 165,1 miljoen ton staal, een stijging van 1,7 procent ten opzichte van februari 2022. In februari daalde de productie met 1,0 procent en januari daalde de productie met 3,3 procent. In december 2022 was de afname zelfs bijna 11 procent.

    In China, wereldwijd met afstand de grootste fabrikant van staal, steeg de productie in maart met 6,9 procent tot 95,7 miljoen ton.

    In de VS daalde de productie met 2,1 procent naar 6,7 miljoen ton.

    De EU kende in maart een productiekrimp van 5,6 procent tot 11,9 miljoen ton. In februari daalde de productie echter nog met bijna 13 procent.

    In Duitsland daalde de productie afgelopen maand met een half procent en in Japan met net geen 6 procent.

    Het is inderdaad een aandeel waar je geld mee kan verdienen, maar dan moet je inderdaad er boven op zitten. Kopen en wachten levert helemaal niks op. Blijft een aandeel dat soms heftig reageert op non nieuws of bijna geen nieuws.

    je kan elke 75 ct wat kopen en daarna een euro hoger weer inleggen om te verkopen. Of de range die je zelf wilt. Dan doe je meerdere transacties per maand met geld ertussen.

    Konkan to get a boost with AM/NS India's New Steel Plant

    AM/NS India is reportedly planning to set up a new plant in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. According to a statement from the state government, the company has expressed its willingness to invest ?80,000 crore in the state and has requested 5,000 acres of suitable land in Konkan to build the facility.

    The announcement followed a meeting between the company’s top officials and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Devendra Fadnavis along with several top bureaucrats from various state departments at the Sahyadri state guest house in Mumbai.

    During the meeting, Fadnavis stated that the state could offer 1,000 acres of land bordering Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg district to the company. However, additional land requirements and procedural aspects related to finalizing the location and land acquisition will be decided in a separate meeting with the officials from maritime board and MIDC.

    Layoff Plan due to Force Majeure Approved for ArcelorMittal Gijon

    In the aftermath of the fire that occurred at the Gijon smelter in March, a petition for temporary layoffs at ArcelorMittal's Spanish subsidiary has been approved by Spain's labor authorities. ArcelorMittal's plan received the backing of the primary unions. The company did not disclose any details of the plan, which was proposed on March 24. The plan affects approximately 7,000 employees in the Asturias cluster, Sagunto near Valencia, Etxebarri in the Basque region, and Lesaka in Navarra.

    According to local reports, the workers affected will retain 90% of their salaries during the six-month period, along with other benefits. In Sagunto, ArcelorMittal produces cold-rolled sheet steel, while Etxebarri specializes in chrome plate steel and Lesaka in colored galvanized plate.

    Clearing the damaged site at Gijon is currently ongoing, and the company expects it to conclude within a week and a half, as per a company spokesperson. Following that, the extent of the damage will be assessed, and the company will estimate the costs and timeframe of repairs.

    ArcelorMittal's blast furnace A restarted in February, but after four months of inactivity, it was running at reduced rates in line with market conditions. Furnace B continues to operate normally. An initial non-official prognosis cited in local press suggests that the plant will be out of action for at least two months.

    ArcelorMittal's Dunkirk Blast Furnace to Restart After Fire Outbreak

    ArcelorMittal is set to restart its blast furnace BF4 at Dunkirk, France by the end of May after it was stopped due to an ignition-caused fire on March 30. According to a company spokesperson, the blast furnace's operation is expected to resume by the end of May, following repairs and safety checks.

    The Dunkirk plant is equipped with three blast furnaces, and BF4 is the largest with a production capacity of 3 million metric tons year. BF No. 3, which can produce 1.5 million metric tons per year, was restarted recently after being idle since mid-September 2022. Meanwhile, the No. 2 furnace was stopped permanently in December 2022 as it had reached the end of its service life.

    In addition, ArcelorMittal France has resumed operation of its 2 million metric tons blast furnace at Fos sur Mer in April after it was shut down in December 2022 due to high energy costs and low demand.

    LAUNCESTON, Australia, April 24 (Reuters) - The spot price of iron ore tumbled to a four-month low as Beijing once again talked down the key steel raw material, but as usual the question is whether the intervention will lead to sustained lower prices.
    The spot price for benchmark 62% iron ore for delivery to north China , as assessed by commodity price reporting agency Argus, dropped to $110.25 a tonne on April 21, the lowest since Dec. 20.
    The price gave up 7.9% from the close of $119.75 a tonne on April 19, the day China's state economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, said it would monitor the iron ore market closely and limit what it.
    China produces just over half of the world's steel and buys more than 70% of seaborne iron ore, with the main exporters being Australia, Brazil and South Africa.
    It's not immediately clear why Beijing picked last week to warn the iron ore market, given that the spot price has been trending down since hitting a nine-month high of $133.40 a tonne on March 15.
    In the past such interventions have tended to come during price rallies, especially if the movement has been rapid.
