Sat navs are helping to drive sales at John Lewis
High street retailer John Lewis has reported a record week for sales of electrical products, with sat navs, DVD players and digital photo frames among the top-selling items.
The group said last week’s figures for home technology sales beat the previous record by 2%, and announced an overall sales increase of 6% on the previous week.
John Lewis also saw a slowdown in its year-on-year sales decline, with sales down just 4% in the week to December 13 - significantly less than the double-digit decreases seen in November.
Christmas shoppers
The news offers hope to other retailers, which have been struggling to lure in price-conscious shoppers in the run up to Christmas.
John Lewis director of selling operations Dan Knowles said: 'With just one more weekend to go now before Christmas, we have seen some very strong trading – particularly in electricals and home technology products.'
He added that the trend is expected to continue in the countdown to Christmas day.
Sat navs
A survey by John Lewis found that almost a third of men named electrical goods such as sat navs as their first choice Christmas gift.
