AMSTERDAM, May 29 (Reuters) - Dutch builder Heijmans (HEIJ.AS: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday it wants to appoint former chief of Dutch dredging company Boskalis (BOSN.AS: Quote, Profile, Research) Rob van Gelder as its new chief executive.
Van Gelder, who retired in 2006 as Boskalis' CEO, will succeed Guus Hoefsloot, who stepped down earlier this month after warning that profits would be lower in 2008, the fifth profit warning in a row. Heijmans also said supervisory board chairman Joep Brentjens would step down, a move that shareholder Van Herk Group, which owns more than 10 percent of Heijmans, was calling for.
Earlier this month Heijmans cut its profit forecast as first quarter results disappointed and on weaker prospects for the housing market.
In 2007 Heijmans, which is mainly active in the Netherlands, posted a profit of 56 million euros ($87 million).
It had earlier projected it would be able to beat this figure in 2008, but now expects around 50 million euros.
Heijmans shares have lost more than 60 percent of their value since June last year when it reached an all time high of 47.19 euros. (Reporting by Harro ten Wolde; Editing by Louise Ireland)
