Rumor: Saab could declare bankruptcy at any time

by Alberto Ballestín of October 11, 2011

We have become used to get bad news from Trollhattan, but if Coach is right, the teledrama of Saab is about to end. And there will be no happy ending. According to the British magazine, there is virtually no possibility that the Chinese government will approve the rescue plan negotiated with Youngman and PangDa to inject a bunch of millions into the coffers of the Swedish manufacturer, which no cash to continue most urgent expenses paid, would have no alternative but to declare bankruptcy eventually. The situation is so dire that the management of Saab would be willing to lower the blinds even before it became public the failure of the talks, issuing a statement of bankruptcy today. Currently, Saab is in the process of reconstruction , which is like in Sweden is called to protection by default. Led by a manager allows the temporary suspension of some debts that would otherwise sink the company. The problem is that when this action was requested, Saab had the income of a bridge loan of 70 million euros with which it could continue to pay wages to its alliance with PangDa Youngman and received approval from Beijing, but by No one has seen a penny of that money . Behind all this cake would be the Chinese government, unwilling to approve any agreement with foreign producers without ensuring technology transfer to domestic firms involved. And apparently, Saab will not or can not offer anything particularly interesting to their members (or the technocrats from Beijing, because nobody here really knows who is pulling the strings). Something similar happened with the failed sale of HUMMER in 2010, as rumored, blocked at the last moment by some authorities are more interested in green technologies that gluttonous SUVs. We look for further information if it was appropriate. We hope not. [Photo: Olivier Morin / AFP / Getty]

NDRC warns against Chinese companies 'Adopt a cautious approach to Saab ", says authority

Now, warns a senior director of NDRC of China, Chinese companies to invest in Saab. "They should adopt a cautious approach," said the assistant manager, according to Bloomberg News.

Chinese companies should adopt a prudent approach to investing in the Saab Automobile.

The words are from Chen Jianguo, deputy director of Industry Coordination of NDRC in China - the powerful ministries that must approve the business with foreign companies, reports Bloomberg News.

    - It depends on how it can be implemented. It is dangerous if there is an abyss, said Chen Jianguo, in an interview in the city of Chengdu on Tuesday.

Saab's plan to manage the reconstruction is based on Youngman and Pang Da injects money and become shareholders. According to the agreement of July, they shall jointly pay 2.2 billion and in return Youngman an ownership interest of 29.9 percent of Saab's owner company Swedish Automobile and Pang Da receive 24 percent.

Crucial is the Chinese government review. According to Saab's timetable to NDRC, which stands for National Development and Reform Commission, come with a vengeance on Friday. At the local and regional level, the transaction has already been cleared.

Then even the Debt Office, the Swedish government and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to approve.

It was on Tuesday not been able to neither Youngman or Pang Da to comment on Saab deal.

    Talks going on in Stockholm
    by till72 on October 11, 2011

Some quotes from ttela.se as mentioned by RedJ in comments:

According to the TTELA CEO Victor Muller and administrator Guy Lofalk today meet representatives of the two Chinese companies, Youngman and Pang Da in Stockholm.

    All on one table. Good.

Saab’s cash is virtually empty and without money from Youngman, the company simply can not continue reconstruction.

Exactly why not Youngman-money already received is unclear. It may be that you do not agree on contract design. But it can also be as easy to come Youngman wary since it became known that Guy Lofalk brought parallel talks with Geely.

The Geely-track, which Lofalk apparently drove without Saab management’s knowledge, seems to have reached an impasse. This, as reported to TTELA – and it is also true with the statement Geely did this weekend.

Therefore, the Saab back to its original plan, which is about to get Youngman and Pang Da as a partner.

Technology License Agreement with Youngman involves using Phoenix technology for next-generation Saab models as collateral to obtain funds from the Chinese company “in advance”.

At today’s meeting must convince Youngman Saab’s management not to pull out. In particular, it reports that the government could bail out the mortgage limits for the government loan guarantee, that is, including Saab’s production equipment and spare parts company, and then sell them to anyone who should have done that Youngman hesitate. They are therefore within the agreed advance payment of 640 million.

It might well be that Youngman/PangDa were not to happy about the talks with Geely. I hope that all are now back to working on the initial plan to get this done. Now

    BAIC uninterested in saving Saab
Posted: 9:42 pm , New West P4 1 Comment Share

The Chinese carmaker BAIC previously purchased production platforms by Saab claims to now be uninterested in participating in a reorganization to save the Swedish marque.

BAIC is just one of a number of Chinese companies that exhibit a weak interest in reconstructing the Saab.

The state-owned carmaker BAIC in Beijing is not interested in participating in a rescue plan for the indebted Saab, it said BAIC Chairman Xu Heyi at a bilforum in Chengdu today. However, he confirmed that the company is in the process of discussing the purchase of parts from foreign companies.

Previously, the private company Geely, which owns Volvo, dismissed speculation it is interested in also buying up Saab.

Chinese companies can signal interest in utlandsköp, but to get the necessary support from Chinese government-controlled banks, companies and funds, required that the purchase is considered to be in line with the strategic national guidelines.

And in the case of Saab, the authorizing authority; commission for development and reform, expressed its skepticism.

Chen Jianguo, which is responsible for industrial co-ordination at the Ministry said today, according to news agency Bloomberg that urges Chinese companies to adopt a prudent approach to Saab, adding that the department may approve Saab Investment depends on how to assess feasibility.
