   Russian Troop Losses Are Likely Near an All-Time High

   Intense Kremlin attacks attempting to gain ground against fortified Ukrainian positions in the eastern Donbas sector likely have pushed counts of Russian dead and wounded to near-record levels for the entire war.
   
   Russian, Ukrainian and independent sources attest to particularly heavy Russian losses suffered in recent weeks, with a peak coinciding with Moscow’s launch of mass attacks by Russian tanks and infantry across the open and heavily mined ground near the city of Adviivka, in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.
   
   The real exception to mass anecdotal, official and third-party reports of what appears to be a nearly unprecedented Russian military casualty rate in October has been official announcements by the Kremlin and its senior members asserting everything is progressing well.
   
   Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in an appearance on state-run television on Tuesday was shown visiting troops in east Ukraine and telling them: “The situation today suggests the enemy has fewer and fewer opportunities. And they will continue to be reduced, thanks exclusively to your combat work.”
   
   A loyal close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Shoigu was filmed smiling and laughing when a Russian soldier told him Ukrainian troops were “in a panic.”
   
   Independent agencies monitoring the Russo-Ukraine war are painting a dramatically different situation on actual battlefields.
   
   Ragnar Gudmundsson, an Iceland-based analyst tracking losses of personnel and equipment on both sides of the Russo-Ukraine War since the early days of Russia’s February 2022 full-scale invasion, in a Wednesday situation update reported Russian service personnel dead hit a probable wartime record of more than 1,400 killed in combat in a single day on Oct. 20., and have averaged 900 men a day killed in combat from 10-20 October, a time window coinciding almost exactly with the launch of major Russian army attacks in the Avdiivka sector.

   KYIV REGION, Ukraine, Oct 24 (Reuters) - At a simple shooting range outside Kyiv, a group of 20 Russian citizens clad in Ukrainian uniforms practiced firing assault rifles and machine guns.
   
   Soon, they expect to be taking aim at the Russian army.
   
   Their commander, a Ukrainian who introduced himself by the callsign Batya, said some of the recruits to Ukraine's newly-formed Siberian Battalion, the yellow and blue flag on their sleeves, were now ready for battle.
   
   A Ukrainian military officer, who asked to remain anonymous, said most of the unit's 50 members came from Russia, travelling through third countries to reach Ukraine.
   
   The officer said most are from among the indigenous peoples of Siberia and recruits said they want to fight against what they said was Russian imperialism both inside Ukraine and in their homelands.
   
   "Starting from Tsarist Russia, when they colonized us, they destroyed our culture, our language and traditions. It was Russification, pure and simple," Gennadiy, a 29-year-old with the callsign Buryat, which refers to his homeland of Buryatia on the shores of Lake Baikal in Siberia, told Reuters.
   
   Military analysts say that Buryatia, as well as some of the other Russian regions which are home to indigenous peoples, have provided a disproportionately large number of soldiers for Russia's war effort.
   
   Gennadiy said many people were forcibly mobilised by Russia, while others were tempted by salaries that could be more than ten times the wages earned by some people in the region.
   
   Civil society group Free Buryatia Foundation has said the drive to mobilise a disproportionate number of Buryats was a political choice, as the Kremlin saw Buryatia as posing less of a risk in terms of anti-government protests.
   
   Not all of the recruits are from Siberia. Some came from other parts of Russia, but said they were driven by a desire to join a unit fighting for Ukraine against Russia, and expressed solidarity with the Siberian peoples.
   
   "I don't want to have any part in those terrible crimes that my country did within its own borders, and what is more terrifying, the massed firepower that is now killing thousands of Ukrainians. Without pity for women, children or the elderly," said a 41-year-old from Moscow region with the callsign Gandhi.
   
   Russia denies targeting civilians in its invasion of Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin has said he is prepared to use all available means to defend Russia's "territorial integrity."
   
   Gandhi said he took the name due to his fascination with the ideas of the 20th century leader, who led India's drive for independence from British colonial rule.
   
   The Siberian Battalion's own Gandhi now wants to break up what he called Russia's "prison of nations".
   
   "I think this will help the empire to collapse, the prison to be destroyed," he added.

    Opnieuw sterft een voorzitter van de Russische oliegroep Lukoil
    De voorzitter van de Russische oliegroep Lukoil is overleden. De 66-jarige Vladimir Nekrasov stierf volgens het bedrijf na een acuut hartfalen. De man nam nog maar een jaar geleden de voorzittershamer op nadat voorganger Ravil Maganov om het leven kwam na een val uit het raam op de zesde verdieping van een ziekenhuis in Moskou.
    Nekrasov werkte al tientallen jaren voor Lukoil. De man lag met hartproblemen in het ziekenhuis en kampte met een depressie, luidde het. Volgens Lukoil is hij overleden na een zware ziekte.
    In mei vorig jaar overleed ook al voormalig manager Alexander Subbotin van Lukoil, na een occulte behandeling bij een sjamaan.
    Lukoil riep in maart vorig jaar als eerste groot Russisch bedrijf op de oorlog in Oekraïne snel te beëindigen.!!!

    The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) announced the appearance of a fake Russian-language Telegram channel "Red Cross Ukraine" and a bot of the same name.
    
    "Attention! A Russian-language fake Telegram channel 'Red Cross Ukraine' has been created, which duplicates most of the news from the official channel of the Ukrainian Red Cross and translates them into Russian," the society said on Facebook on Wednesday.
    
    The society reminded that the Ukrainian Red Cross informs about its activities only in Ukrainian and English and does not collect personal data through social networks and bots.
    
    "All official communication channels of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society are verified, that is, recognized as social networks and have a blue circle with a tick next to their name, confirming this status," the society said.

    Het Europees Parlement wil Oekraïne voorzien van bijna 150 door de EU in beslag genomen pantservoertuigen

    Het Nederlandse parlementslid Bart Groothuis heeft voorgesteld om Oekraïne te voorzien van tientallen gepantserde militaire voertuigen die in beslag zijn genomen tijdens pogingen om deze illegaal in Libië te importeren.

    Eind 2022 heeft de militaire missie IRINI van de EU, die tot doel heeft schendingen van het VN-embargo op wapenleveringen aan Libië te voorkomen, het Nederlandse vrachtschip MV Meerdijk voor de kust van Zuid-Afrika in beslag genomen.
    
    Het schip vervoerde 41 gepantserde terreinvoertuigen van BATT UMG van een fabriek in de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten naar Bengasi, een Libische kuststad die wordt gecontroleerd door de strijdkrachten van generaal Khalifa Khaftar, die niet wordt erkend door de internationale gemeenschap.
    
    De lading werd in beslag genomen en opgeslagen nabij de Franse stad Marseille. Daar worden minstens 146 militaire voertuigen opgeslagen die ondanks de VN-sancties naar Libië zijn gestuurd.
    
    Groothuis vindt dat de EU deze apparatuur aan Oekraïne moet overdragen. Hij wordt gesteund door verschillende invloedrijke Europarlementariërs, waaronder Guy Verhofstadt.
