   Oostenrijkse kanselier Nehammer bij Poetin: "Dit was geen vriendenbezoek"
   De Oostenrijkse bondskanselier Karl Nehammer heeft in Moskou een ontmoeting gehad met de Russische president Vladimir Poetin. Hij is de eerste westerse regeringsleider die Poetin bezoekt sinds de Russische invasie in Oekraïne. Volgens Nehammer was het geen prettig bezoek, maar hij wil elke kans grijpen om een einde te maken aan de "humanitaire hel" in Oekraïne. Nog vandaag heeft de Oekraïense president Volodimir Zelenski gewaarschuwd voor een nieuwe golf van aanvallen in het oosten van Oekraïne.
   Oostenrijk heeft een speciale status: sinds 1955 is het officieel een neutraal land (en is het geen lid van de NAVO), maar het is wel lid van de EU en treft ook sancties tegen Rusland. De neutraliteit gaat terug op het verdrag dat in 1955 een einde maakte aan de bezetting door Amerikaanse, Britse, Franse en Sovjet-troepen, net als Duitsland na de oorlog. Tijdens de Koude Oorlog lag Oostenrijk op de "frontlijn" tussen oost en west, nu zit het veilig ingekapseld in de Europese Unie. Oostenrijk kan in principe die neutraliteit eenzijdig opheffen, maar daar is weinig animo voor.

   Ondertussen raakt bekend dat de economie van Oekraïne dit jaar kan krimpen met 45 procent. Dat zegt de Wereldbank. Veel bedrijven zijn dicht en de export is ingestort. Hoeveel de economie uiteindelijk echt zal te lijden hebben, hangt natuurlijk af van de duur van de oorlog.
   
   Miljoenen Oekraïners zijn naar het buitenland gevlucht en ook dat kan negatieve gevolgen hebben voor het economische herstel. Voor Rusland verwacht de Wereldbank een krimp van ruim 11 procent, en dat heeft vooral te maken met de sancties van het Westen.

   Ik begin er steeds meer van overtuigd te raken dat deze oorlog snel ophoudt als Poetin ziet dat deze niet te winnen is. Ergo: snelle en goede wapenleveranties door vrienden van de Oekraïne. Luchtafweergeschut en a.u.b. de juiste wapens om die verdomde boten voor de kust zo snel mogelijk tot zinken te brengen. Maar vooral snel.

   Pro-Russische separatisten zeggen dat ze de haven van Marioepol hebben ingenomen, meldt het Russische persbureau RIA Novosti. Of de bewering klopt, is niet duidelijk.

   More Western firms are quitting their business in Russia.
   
   Swedish telecoms company Ericsson said it is suspending its business in Russia indefinitely.
   
   “In late February, Ericsson suspended all deliveries to customers in Russia. In the light of recent events and of European Union sanctions, the company will now suspend its affected business with customers in Russia indefinitely. Ericsson is engaging with customers and partners regarding the indefinite suspension of the affected business,” the company said in a statement.
   
   It added that its employees in Russia will be placed on paid leave.
   
   Ericsson said it would record a 900 million Swedish krona ($95 million) provision in first quarter 2022 for impairment of assets and other exceptional costs.
   
   French banking giant, Societe Generale, has ceased its banking and insurance activities in Russia and has announced the sale of its entire stake in Rosbank and its Russian insurance subsidiaries to Interros Capital, Rosbank’s former shareholder.
   
   The group stated in a news release that it would exit “in an effective and orderly manner from Russia, ensuring continuity for its employees and clients.”
   
   The transaction remains subject to the approval by the relevant regulatory and anti-trust authorities, according to the news release. “The closing of this operation should occur within the coming weeks,” Societe Generale said adding that it would lead to a write-off of about 2 billion euros ($2.2 billion).

   Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer intends to tell Russian President Vladimir Putin “the truth” about the war in Ukraine during their face to face meeting in Moscow on Monday, according to a top Austrian official.
   
   Nehammer is set to be the first EU leader to meet with Putin since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began in late February.
   
   He visited Kyiv to meet Ukraine's President Volodymy Zelensky on Saturday.
   
   Speaking ahead of an EU meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, Austria's Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg told reporters "it makes a difference to be face to face and tell him what the reality is: that this president has de facto lost the war morally."
   
   "It should be in his own interest that someone tells him the truth. I think it is important and we owe it to ourselves if we want to save human lives."
   
   "The reason for the meeting is that we don’t want to miss any opportunity, we must use every chance to end the humanitarian hellish situation in Ukraine ... every voice that will help Putin to see the reality outside of the wall of Kremlin is not a lost voice," Schallenberg added.
   
   Some background: Nehammer's trip to Moscow is significant given his country's neutral status, which is enshrined in its constitution.
   
   Austria is not part of NATO and does not supply weapons to Ukraine. It has, however, provided Ukraine with humanitarian aid and helmets and protection vests for civilian use, according to a statement from the Austrian Chancellery.
   
   Nehammer said Saturday that while his country is militarily neutral, "we understand we have to help where injustice and war crimes take place."

    Rusland dwergstaat
    
    Rusland gedraagt zich als een grootmacht, maar is in feite een dwergstaat. De economie van Rusland is zoals deze van Spanje en dus niets in vergelijking met grootmachten als US , Japan of Duitsland.
    
    Hun gas en olie hebben we ook al niet nodig. Als Putin niet gauw ophoudt met zijn onzin, is er misschien militaire interventie nodig, en wordt de Rusdische dwerg in 1 week op de knieën gedwongen.
    
    Putin lijdt aan grootheidswaanzin, en zo'n liedjes duren niet lsng. Zijn leger is zowieso niet gemotiveerd, de oppositie echter des te meer.
    
    Ik zou de Putin lovers willen waarschuwen : ze zullen zich spoedig voelen zoals de collaborateurs na WO2. We hadden er helaas veel in Vlaanderen ; oa Oostfronters die meevochten met de Duitsers. Ze werden gefusilleerd of afgeranseld als ze terugkwamen.
    
    Hopelijk wordt Putin gestopt door de Russische oppositie.
