AIM-quoted Antonov may be poised to breakthrough in the car industry with a pioneering automative gearbox that is cheaper, lighter and more fuel-efficient than existing equipment. ...this week it bagged its first major customer: Japanese giant Honda. It's a deal that could become a 'company-maker' for Antonov... Honda has bought a licence covering the entire range of Antonov's patents, giving it the right to use the technology not just in cars but in motorcycles, generators, marine engines and any other products it manufactures. All the details of the agreement are confidential which makes it difficult to assess its full impact on Antonov's fortunes at this stage. The Osaka-based giant has decided to pay up an upfront fee to be followed by future royalties on each transmission it produces. Poor Antonov would love to tell the world how much the deal is worth but the Japs are being inscrutable as ever. That said, you can be sure that all the world's other big manufacturer have taken note. The potential market is huge. If Antonov's box went into just 5% of cars and light vans built every year, it could generate revenues of up £40m - much of this falling to the bottom line. Antonov will only speak in generalities. Other licenced transmission technologies have royalty rates of 3-4% of the production cost. Antonov's transmission system is likely to cost £400-£450 per unit - far cheaper than any of its rivals. That would deliver revenue of just over £12 on just a 3% royalty. But let's be conservative and assume £10 per unit. Antonov reckons a major car company would want to produce at least 350,000 transmissions a year to make it economically viable. That suggests £3.5m of annual revenues for Antonov. There are already two other licencees. One of them is Gajra, an Indian company that hopes to put the transmission in a new vehicle being developed by Suzuki with India's biggest car-maker and partner, Maruti. It plans to produce 100,000 units a year suggesting annual revenues for Antonov of at least £1m. Antonov is for investors with the appetite for a punt in an early-stage company moving into the fast lane and prepared to hold for at least a year. They will need the stomach for the inevitable roller-coaster ride from a company that 's trying to break new ground in the automotive industry experience (as investors in rival Torotrak can vouch).

inderdaad interessant, maar waarom vemeld je de bron niet even? Niet dat ik eraan twijfel, want iets dergelijks weten we natuurlijk allang, maar ik vind het toch interessant om het even op de pagina te lezen waar je het vandaan hebt.

patent toegevoegd: Veröffentlichungsnummer : RO117728 PROCESS FOR CONTROLLING THE TRANSMISSION RATIO CHANGE AND TRANSMISSION DEVICE FOR APPLYING THE PROCESS Veröffentlichungsnr. (Sek.) Veröffentlichungsdatum : 2002-06-28 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 6,471,615 Info uit een Honda patent (gebruik Ant. patenten)/29 okt. 2002 The *eight-speed automatic transmission 1 can be *changed into a five-speed, six-speed or seven-speed automatic transmission by properly changing the timing of changing the condition of the hydraulic clutch 27. For example, if the hydraulic clutch 27 is disengaged at proper time before the first centrifugal clutch 17 is engaged in upshifting the automatic transmission 1 from the first speed to the second speed, the second speed is skipped and the automatic transmission 1 can be upshifted from the first speed to the third speed. Similarly, the automatic transmission 1 can be upshifted from the fifth speed to the seventh speed, skipping the sixth speed. Thus, the automatic transmission 1 is able to function as a six-speed automatic transmission. Although the invention has been described as applied to the automatic transmission 1 for the FF vehicle, having the two parallel shafts, i.e., the input shaft 2 and the support shaft 3, the present invention is applicable to an automatic transmission for a **front-engine rear-drive (FR) vehicle, having a long input shaft capable of supporting thereon the third module M3 and the reverse drive unit 40 in addition to the first module M1 and the second module M2. Although the invention has been described in its preferred embodiments with a certain degree of particularity, obviously **many changes and **variations are possible therein. It is therefore to be understood that the present invention may be practiced **otherwise than as specifically described herein without departing from the scope and spirit thereof. Je kunt er dus vele kanten mee op.

"...this week it bagged its first major customer: Japanese giant Honda. It's a deal that could become a 'company-maker' for Antonov..." Deze week? Bericht van februari volgens mij. Of van jaren geleden, immers Honda is al jaren aan het testen en testen en testen en testen en testen.
