Gold Assets Top 2,000 Tons as the Clamor for Havens Grows Louder
    July 7, 2016

Global gold holdings topped 2,000 metric tons for the first time in three years as the Brexit fallout and speculation that U.S. interest rates won’t rise anytime soon sent investors hunting for a haven.
Holdings in bullion-backed exchange-traded funds rose 4.1 tons to 2,001.4 tons on Wednesday, data compiled by Bloomberg show. That’s larger than gold reserves held by China, the biggest consumer and a consistent central-bank buyer in recent months. The latest increase followed the biggest one-day gain since 2009 in the SPDR Gold Shares, the largest gold ETF.

Global assets in the funds have surged 37 percent this year and prices are near a two-year high as slowing growth, negative rates in Europe and Japan and the likelihood that the Federal Reserve won’t hike further combined to boost demand. The U.K.’s vote last month to quit the European Union has added further impetus to that pro-bullion mix. Gold has likely entered the early stages of the next bull run, according to UBS Group AG, while ABN Amro Group NV says prices may hit $1,425 this quarter.
“Investment demand has been very strong, with institutional buyers of ETFs the big gorilla in the room,” said John Butler, a vice president at GoldMoney, which provides custodian and investment services in Toronto. “We’ve reached a psychological tipping point where people see a material increase in the risk of a repeat of what we saw in 2008.”
    Strong Demand
Client demand has been so strong recently that GoldMoney has struggled to keep up, he said.
Gold for immediate delivery added 0.2 percent to $1,366.91 an ounce by 10:46 a.m. in London, according to Bloomberg generic pricing. Prices reached a two-year high on Wednesday and a seventh daily advance would be the longest run since February.
The ETF holdings compare with the 1,808.3 tons held by China, according to figures from the World Gold Council. They’re also about twice the size of Switzerland’s holdings and a quarter of the stash kept by the U.S.
The Fed is losing confidence in its need to tighten any time soon as officials face rising uncertainty about the outlook for growth at home and abroad, according to minutes released Wednesday of a meeting held before Britain’s vote. In Europe, there’s speculation policy makers may add to stimulus, as well as mounting concern about weakness in Italy’s banking industry.
    Central Banks
“The emergence of central banks collectively being more inclined to possibly deepen QE programs, including the Fed neutrality stand, have been a very good tailwind for gold,” said David Lennox, a resource analyst at Fat Prophets in Sydney.

Bank analysts have been raising forecasts as gold rallied. UBS increased its short-term target to $1,400 an ounce from $1,250, according to a July 5 note. Singapore-based Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. has also flagged the potential for bullion rising to $1,400, while Goldman Sachs Group Inc. boosted its three-, six- and 12-month targets. In a July 6 note, ABN Amro’s Georgette Boele raised her end-of-quarter forecast by $75 to $1,425.

China Resumes Monthly Gold Buying in Bid to Diversify Reserves
    July 7, 2016

China, the world’s biggest producer and consumer of gold, added about 500,000 ounces to central bank reserves in June, restarting monthly purchases to diversify holdings after taking a breather in May.
The People’s Bank of China increased assets to 58.62 million ounces, or about 1,823 metric tons, from 58.14 million ounces in May when they were unchanged, according to data on the central bank’s website. The country has boosted its hoard in 11 out of the past 12 months after announcing a 57 percent increase to 53.32 million ounces since 2009.
China bought gold during a month when global prices climbed 8.8 percent, boosted by the U.K. vote to leave the European Union and a further scaling back of expectations for a rise in U.S. interest rates. Bullion has surged 29 percent this year as investors sought a shelter from market turbulence and increasing global economic and political risks. Assets in exchange-traded funds jumped 37 percent in 2016 to more than 2,000 metric tons.

“China renewed purchases despite a spike in prices, signaling that the nation is still looking to diversify its foreign exchange reserves in a steady manner,” Zhang Yanxin, an analyst at Shanghai Flow International Trade Co., said by phone. “But the amount is relatively insignificant in a global context,” Zhang said, noting it was about 15 tons whereas ETF assets jumped more than twice that number in a single day this week.

Gold And Eggs Lure Back Chinese Speculators in Trading Revival
    July 7, 2016

    .....
Gold volumes on the Shanghai Futures Exchange jumped to a record on June 24 while silver trading was at the highest level since August 2015 on Wednesday as the Brexit vote sent investors to havens.
    .....
While volumes are increasing, aggregate open interest has remained relatively unchanged, an indication of short-term, speculative trading as opposed to hedging.

“Volumes fell in May and June after some profit-taking from investors in ferrous metals futures and cooling measures by the exchanges,” said Cheng. “Now we’re seeing investment pile up again in commodities with bullish fundamentals.”

6 things Australian traders will be talking about this morning
    JUL 8, 2016, 8:41 AM
    .....
    2. Here’s a little German bank which might soon become the next flashpoint as fears grow of another global banking crisis. We’ve talked about the banking crisis in Italy this past week, and the troubles in the UK property fund sector are now well known. Seven British investment firms suspended trading in their property funds , freezing £15 billion ($US19.4 billion) of assets since Monday.

That has many folks worried about contagion.

Overnight Deutsche Bank, which was the subject of Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi’s ire earlier this week, hit a fresh all time low. But it is another German bank which might actually be the one to watch. The FT reports that “a bond sold by Bremer Landesbank lost a quarter of its value on Thursday, after signs that state support for the struggling lender may be weaker than expected”.

Citing Handelsblatt the FT says Bremer, which is part owned by the government of Lower Saxony, is weighed down by non-performing shipping loans. But Lower Saxony Prime Minister Stephen Weil said the bank can’t be recapitalised because (via google translate) “the classic way, namely that both partners provide the necessary capital does not seem to work”.

It doesn’t work because he’s not allowed to kick the tin. Jens Weidmann and Wolfgang Schäuble would be apoplectic.
    .....
    4. Gold’s rally might be about to get a central bank turbo-boost. After bottoming out around $1050 earlier this year gold has had a massive rally as it was supported by negative interest rates and morphed from an inflation trade into an uncertainty trade. That drove gold to a high this week around $1374 an ounce. Just a little way through the weekly down trend but below important resistance in the $1378/80 region. So the bulls are a little wary and have backed off a bit.

But Akin Oyedele reports that Capital Economics reckons central banks are about to get their gold buying hats back on. Capital’s Simona Gambarini says its emerging market central banks that will be the big movers.

But, can I draw you to Gambarini’s rationale for Golds attractiveness. “With rates having turned negative in most of Europe and Japan and likely to remain so for some time on “Brexit” woes, the opportunity cost of holding gold has all but disappeared”, she said. Readers of this note will be familiar with that theme.
    .....
    6. US non-farm payrolls tonight has never been more important. Everything changed for the Fed when the May non-farm payrolls were released a month ago. That print of 38,000 looked aberrant. But it was so low that the Fed, and many other commentators, had to scratch their heads and worry about the uncertainty in the US jobs market.

Tonight we’ll know the truth. Or at least the latest statistical version of it when the jobs report for June is released. The market is looking for an increase of 180,000 jobs and an unemployment rate of 4.8%. But in many ways it is the revision to last month’s number – and I’m guessing hopes of a big writeback of job creation – which is going to be the big story

TA, koersdoelen, adviezen etc, geven beleggers alleen houvast.
Dit jaar wordt bijna onmogelijk om winstgevend te beleggen.

Zelfs beleggers die nu nog winst hebben, zullen waarschijnlijk aan het eind van het jaar verlies lijden.

I’m going to make a 400% profit on gold–here’s how: Trader
    15 Hours Ago

Even after the asset hit a two-year high on Wednesday, Andrew Keene of AlphaShark is preparing a way to cash in on an expected drop in the popular gold ETF (GLD). Looking at a daily chart of the GLD, Keene points out that all signs indicate a downtrend for gold as the yellow metal slipped from its incredible surge during Thursday trading.

"We made a 'shooting star top' here at $130. Right at the shooting star top, that is a new 52-week high, and then the next day, it put in a lower low and lower high," Keene said Thursday on CNBC's "Trading Nation." "So I think the GLD is headed lower."

From the same daily chart of the GLD, Keene establishes new levels that he believes investors should watch out for. According to Keene, the previous resistance level of $124 will become support, but at the same time, the GLD could in fact fall below that support level as the intersection between the 50-day moving average and 200-day moving average cross around $120.

On top of this, Keene's longer-term chart shows that the GLD could see an even bigger downturn than a short-term chart would predict, as the weekly chart's 50-week and 100-week moving averages intersect at $113.

Keene's GLD trade involves buying the December 120-strike puts and selling the December 115-strike puts for a cost of $1, meaning he is risking $100 per options contract. If gold closes at or below $115 at mid-December expiration, Keene will see a 400 percent return on the money that he's putting at risk.

"This is a great way to play GLD to the short side, because I think GLD is heading lower from the shooting star top on the daily and it's completely overbought," he said. "The GLD, I think, has a date with $115 by the end of the year."

Goud zit momenteel inderdaad in een uptrend, maar een safe haven zou ik goud zeker niet noemen. Kijk maar eens naar de LT-grafiek van goud, dan zal je zien hoe volatiel de goudprijs is.
