"We are Live and we are literally settling currencies in seconds." Alex Holmes CEO of @MoneyGram
The investment agreement provides the Company with an option to sell up to $20 million of additional equity to Ripple through June 30, 2020. The commercial agreement allows MoneyGram to utilize Ripple's xRapid blockchain product, as well as XRP, Ripple's cryptocurrency, to facilitate cross-border settlement. The Company expects that this will reduce working capital needs and have the potential to generate additional earnings and cash flow.

Fed werkt aan eigen realtime betalingssysteem

    Door ANP Producties
    2 uur geleden in FINANCIEEL

One of the frontrunners in the market is Ripple. It is challenging existing solutions by settling transactions in four seconds or less using its own cryptocurrency: XRP.

This contrasts with SWIFT, which takes a different approach and integrates its open banking solution with a financial institution’s existing system to send messages between banks. However, despite the backing of financial institutions, SWIFT payments lag far behind emerging blockchain solutions. They process payments in over 24 hours and require human intervention.

Blockchain in cross-border payments: SMEs’ opportunity in international trade
For example, Ripple partnered with Cambridge Global Payments — a subsidiary of Fleetcor Technologies and a leading global provider of commercial payment solutions — last year to help them achieve just that. By using XRP to facilitate cross-border payments, the company was able to cut down the costs for international B2B payments and bing down transaction speed to just a few seconds.
    (...)
For instance, Euro Exim Bank is a UK SME bank which specialises in international export and import payments. The bank uses blockchain, combined with XRP, to provide clients with on-demand liquidity for international transactions. So instead of needing multiple pre-funded currency accounts around the world, the bank can move money where and when they are needed by its clients.

In addition to this, Euro Exim Bank has started embedding complex trades within blockchain messages, allowing it to automate international trades and even further reduce the speed and costs of payments for international exports and imports.

MoneyGram (MGI) Up 64% Since Last Earnings Report: Can It Continue?
During the reported quarter, Ripple made an investment in MoneyGram, per a commercial agreement, by infusing equity of $30 million. The agreement allows MoneyGram to utilize Ripple's xRapid blockchain product, as well as XRP, Ripple's cryptocurrency, to facilitate cross-border settlement. This transaction is expected to reduce working capital needs and generate additional earnings and cash flow for the company.

XRP's weekly transaction value rises 60%
The average amount of value being transferred over the XRP network has shot up this week, in part due to a large transfer from Ripple to its co-founder Jed McCaleb, who is no longer with the company.
(...)However, the single transaction only accounts for 2.6% of the increase in weekly volume, suggesting that something else is pushing it up.
